Good, strong article. In the huge pantheon of idiomatic phrases that never made it to the mainstream I nominate 'no more twist' meaning a complex task incomplete but through no fault of one's own.
Hi Kate, thanks for your great article about Beatrix Potter. I’ve always adored her stories & art work. Like Beatrix, I’ve chosen to live in a remote wild area for its beauty & wildlife. I enjoy long solitary walks with my dog. And I would love to buy lots of wilderness to just save it, as Beatrix did.
I’m a child of the Lakeland fells and was rambled against my will all over those gorgeous crags! And yet did not know this story of her thwarted love. Thank you for sharing this.
Yes, the rambling is my favourite thing now and I’ve also made my four do it too. I got my 19 yr old with DS up Catbells at Christmas which was touch ‘n’ go but success finally. Hers is a great story.
Thank you for sharing this story. We have visited Hill Cottage and have gifted several of her books, and a special keepsake always on show in our home is Mr Jeremy Fisher.
Thank you very much for this lovely article of Beatrix Potter’s life & generosity. A remarkable individual indeed and a wonderful example for us all.
You’re so welcome. I adored her books as a child and now as an adult writer I am just so endlessly impressed!
I so loved your article! I read a biography of her years ago; it was very interesting, to me, anyway. Would love to go visit those acres.
Hope you make it to the beautiful Lakes x
Such a quietly beautiful account of a figure so wildly recognised but essentially unknown.
Wonderful telling about an extraordinary human.
Thanks! 😊
So lovely 🫶

I’m going to use that when I next miss a deadline!
🤩🤩🤩 What an interesting lady
Beautiful story! Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome x
What an interesting woman! Hmmm . . . sounds like a great epitaph.

Rambled against my will! That made me laugh out loud. That's what I do to my children now. It's such a fascinating and little known tale isn't it x

Amazing, Have you written about it? I'd love to read if so x
I haven’t written about it no.
I meant hers as in Beatrix’s story.
My 19 yr old is a he and I do write about him on my Substack at times.
He (unfortunately) likes the Peter Rabbit live action films. Groan! I prefer the Royal Ballet Potter tales if watching.👌🏼
A lovely read. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Helen, you are most welcome x
How sorrowful that Norman died abruptly. I'm glad Beatrix found companionship in later life. I didnt know any of this. Thanks for your post.
I know, we never get to hear this side of Beatrix, I love her connection to the lakes x
Thank you. I didn't know any of this.
I know. Such an eye opener. And there was so much more! May need to write a follow up!
Beatrix Potter is one of my heroes. I love her books and her strength.
The more I discover about her the more in awe I am at her achievements. A very impressive woman!
